China’s economy grew 4.5% year on year in the third quarter of 2026, up from 4.3% in Q2, with sequential growth of 1.2%. The October 19 release shows stronger technology production alongside subdued domestic demand.
An uneven sector picture
Industrial robot output rose 29.1% and 3D printing equipment output 62.5% over the first nine months. Consumer goods retail sales increased 1.1%, while property development investment fell 20.6% year on year.
Exports measured in yuan rose 16.4% in the first nine months. That period and currency basis should not be mixed with quarterly export readings.
Analysis: separate output from shareholder returns
Technology strength may create selective opportunities rather than a uniform recovery. Durable customer demand, pricing and cash generation matter alongside production growth.
For consumer and property-linked businesses, household confidence and income remain more informative than headline GDP alone. Export-led earnings also depend on overseas demand and trade conditions.
