Elon Musk has reportedly invested approximately $1 billion in Skydance, adding another connection between major technology investors and the media industry. CNBC reported the investment on Thursday, October 22, 2026, citing a person familiar with the matter. The report did not include direct confirmation from Musk or Skydance.
Fresh funding after the Warner deal
The investment follows Paramount Skydance’s completion earlier in October of its $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, with the combined group renamed Skydance.
Musk’s commitment forms part of a broader effort to raise equity investment as David Ellison seeks to develop a more technology-driven media business, improve efficiency and cut costs.
Longstanding Ellison connections
Musk has longstanding ties with Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison, the father of Skydance’s leader. Larry Ellison committed $1 billion to help finance Musk’s Twitter acquisition in 2022. Former Mattel chief executive Ynon Kreiz also joined Skydance as co-chief executive in September.
What investors should watch
Market News perspective: Equity funding could give the group additional flexibility as it integrates operations and pursues technology investment. Assessing the benefits requires clarity on Musk’s investment terms, ownership stake and rights, followed by evidence that cost reductions can produce sustainable cash flow. A prominent investor’s involvement alone does not establish that the transformation will succeed.
