VinFast, listed on Nasdaq as VFS, released unaudited results on 19 October for the second quarter ended 30 June 2026. Revenue rose 85.5% year on year to approximately $1.204 billion, with 70,085 electric vehicles delivered.
The final loss and the underlying business differ
The loss from continuing operations reached approximately $1.237 billion, up 127.8% year on year. Net gains from discontinued operations, including manufacturing-disposal gains, amounted to about $1.181 billion, leaving a total net loss of $56.1 million.
A smaller final loss therefore does not demonstrate improved profitability in the continuing business. Reclassification also makes recast comparative periods important when assessing changes over time.
What investors can take from the results
Analytically, sales volumes can expand while the cost of growth remains high. Evaluating an electric-vehicle manufacturer consequently requires testing whether revenue can produce margins and cash flow, rather than relying only on vehicles delivered.
Asset restructuring may provide financing flexibility, but it does not automatically resolve recurring operating losses. Improving unit economics and reducing dependence on external funding would make growth more sustainable. A persistent gap between sales and profitability could instead keep financing risk relevant.
